January 2012

From ‘the forest’ team...

New Year is a great time for new plans and new ideas. We hope that 2011 has been a good year for you and that 2012 will be even better.

In the middle of this month’s magazine we have a feature on Weddings that is ideal to take a look through if you or anyone close is planning a wedding. We have an article on the latest trends for Weddings in 2012 that is bound to inspire you.

This month’s National Trust article, is about Octavia Hill, who was one of the three founder members of the National Trust. This amazing organisation has been in existence for 106 years and remains one of our National Treasures.

We have our first seasonal news report on local birds written by Sue Graham, Chairman of the Leicestershire and Rutland Ornithological Society. It is very interesting to know about the diversity of birds that can be seen in the local area. Sue’s husband Jim (president of the Leicestershire and Rutland Ornithological Society) provided us with the photo below of a beautiful Siskin.

Once again ‘Africa Aid’ based in Anstey are holding their annual Folk and Variety evening in Quorn on Friday 27th January. This is a fun evening and helps to fund them taking much needed aid to orphanages and hospitals in Africa. Please see our article for more details.

We also have news about the Whitwick and District U3A January meeting and AGM. This is a relatively new group that is very popular. This is a definite date for the diary.

For anyone wishing to advertise in ‘theforest our advertising deadline is the 8th of the preceding month.
